Unzipping a Zipped Folder
📂 How to Unzip (Extract) Files
When you receive a Zipped (compressed) folder, you might find that the files inside—particularly PDFs or applications—will not open or function correctly while they are still "zipped."
To fix this, you must unzip (or extract) the folder contents before using them.
🔓 Instructions to Extract Files
Unzipping files in Windows is a quick process utilizing the built-in File Explorer:
- Open the Zip folder by double-clicking it in File Explorer.
- Look for the Extract All button located in the ribbon menu at the top of the window.
- A pop-up window will appear asking where you want to save the files.
- You can leave the default location (which usually creates a normal folder in the same place as the Zip file).
- Ensure the box for "Show extracted files when complete" is checked.
- Click Extract.
Once finished, a new, unzipped folder will open, and you can now edit and view your files normally.
