  1. Navigate to the 2-Step Verification page.
  2. Sign in with your Edison Wildcats email if prompted.
  3. Choose one of the options:
    1. Security key (YubiKey) – Use this if you prefer not to use your phone and already have a YubiKey (the same key many staff use for ProgressBook).
    2. Google Prompt – The simplest option. You’ll get a Yes/No prompt on your phone when you sign in.
    3. Authenticator app (Duo Mobile) – Works with your existing Duo app; other authenticator apps work similarly.

Security Key Setup (YubiKey)

  1. On the 2-Step Verification page, select Passkeys and security.
  2. Choose Use a security key, then select Next.
  3. Insert or tap your YubiKey when prompted. If asked, touch the metal contact on the key.
  4. Back on the 2-Step Verification page, select Turn on 2-Step Verification.

Google Prompt Setup (phone push approval)

  1. On your phone, install one of Google’s apps if needed:
  2. Sign in to the app with your Edison Wildcats email.
  3. Return to the 2-Step Verification page. You should see your phone listed under Google Prompt.
  4. Select Turn on 2-Step Verification near the top of the page.

Authenticator App Setup (Duo Mobile)

  1. Install Duo Mobile on your phone: iOS or Android.
  2. On the 2-Step Verification page, select Authenticator → Set up authenticator.
  3. Open Duo Mobile → tap + → choose Use QR code, then scan the QR shown on your computer.
  4. Duo adds an entry for your Edison Google account with a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds.
    • You may be prompted to set a Duo recovery password to help transfer your authenticator when you change phones. (If you forget it, IT can assist.)
  5. Back on your computer, enter the current 6-digit code from Duo and select Verify.
  6. Return to the 2-Step Verification page and select Turn on 2-Step Verification.
  1. On the 2-Step Verification page, find Backup codes and select Get Backup Codes.
  2. Download or Print the codes and store them securely (not in your laptop bag).
  3. Each code can be used once when you don’t have your phone or key.

Good Practices

  • Add at least two methods (e.g., Google Prompt + Backup Codes, or YubiKey + Backup Codes).
  • Use clear names for devices/keys so you can recognize them later.
  • When replacing a phone, add the new phone before wiping or turning in the old one.

Troubleshooting

  • Not receiving Google prompts? Make sure notifications are allowed for the Gmail/Google app and you’re signed into the correct Edison account on the device.
  • Authenticator codes not working? Ensure your phone’s time is set automatically; re-scan the QR code if needed.
  • YubiKey not detected? Try a different USB port, make sure your browser is up to date, and touch the key when prompted.
  • Locked out? Use a Backup Code. If you don’t have one, contact the IT Help Desk for a 2-Step reset.
